HEAVY DEMAND! BUSY! HAPPY! HELP!

We opened October 30. All volunteers. We opened slow, accepting only 10.

However, we couldn’t reject these 26 friends (10 are kids – see last night’s kiddie art) from Honduras, El Salvador, and Venezuela. As I write, they are eating breakfast (the photo was last night’s dinner). They had lived on downtown sidewalks, until last night.

NOW THE REAL WORK HAS STARTED. We built carefully, physically and institutionally, but a great deal always lies ahead to have a permanent, safe, just shelter for migrants.

It costs a lot to feed, clean, and care for people in Morelia. Mexico is NOT CHEAP. NAFTA also leveled out prices – food costs about the same as US food, as do gas, soaps, propane, water, electricity, etc. Donors like you have been fundamental to our progress.

Gran Demanda! Muy Ocupado y Muy Feliz! Ayúdanos!

Abrimos el 30 de octubre. Todos voluntarios. Abrimos lento, aceptando sólo 10. Sin embargo, no pudimos rechazar a estos 26 amigos (10 son niños – ver el arte infantil de anoche) de Honduras, El Salvador y Venezuela.

Mientras escribo, están desayunando (la foto es de la cena de anoche). Hasta anoche habían vivido en las aceras del centro. AHORA HA EMPEZADO EL VERDADERO TRABAJO.

Construimos con cuidado, física e institucionalmente, pero siempre queda mucho por delante para tener un refugio permanente, seguro y justo para los migrantes.

Cuesta mucho alimentar, limpiar y cuidar a la gente en Morelia. México NO ES BARATO. El TLCAN también niveló los precios: los alimentos cuestan casi lo mismo que en Estados Unidos, al igual que el gas, los jabones, el propano, el agua, la electricidad, etc.
