It takes a village to make a bed

Donation of 50 blankets adds to warm welcome at the Albergue

We can’t have the Albergue without beds, and we couldn’t have beds — sleepable, comfortable, sanitary beds — without broad community support.

First, UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) contributed bunk bed frames and mattresses.

Caritas provided sheets, pillows, and blankets, and Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Chapel filled out the mattress supply.

Now, the National Institute for Migration provided 50 more pretty blue blankets.

Individual donors contributed the two new 22kg washing machines needed to keep it all clean.

Beds, of course, are only one part of creating the safe, comfortable, welcoming space we strive for. Donors have purchased refrigerators, toilets, a computer and printer, lime trees, and more. Many people have contributed their time, many have donated funds.

Yes — this post just turned into a pitch to contribute, perhaps again!

Please consider donating to get the doors to the Albergue open — so migrants can start resting safely and peacefully in those beds!

THANK YOU ALL!
